Detailed Reviews on condenser tumble dryers, all in one washer dryers, and more!

All in One Washer Dryer

What is an all in one washer dryer? Isn’t it just a stackable, with the dryer on top and the washer on bottom?

No, it’s not.

It’s actually one machine that has both a washer and a dryer in it! This means that it’s extremely compact. Still, how do they work, and what do they cost?

Some All in One Washers and Dryers

There are a few manufacturers who produce these kinds of machines, and they include LG, Whirlpool, Samsung and GE. They are all front-load types.

The capacities vary, but here they are in size order

LG:  4.2 cubic feet

GE: 4.2 cubic feet

Samsung: 4.3 cubic feet

Whirlpool: 4.4 cubic feet

Best Features

Now that you know the capacities of the four machines, what is the most notable feature of each? Here they are, in no particular order.

The LG’s best feature is the fact that it runs on household current (110 volts) and doesn’t need special venting.

The Samsung has 12 wash/dry combinations, and 5 of the settings include a “sanitize” function which means you don’t need bleach for sanitation purposes.

The GE has a steam-assist, to help reduce wrinkles while drying.

The Whirlpool is extremely efficient, with up to 70% savings on energy costs. It also tended to get the best overall reviews.

Costs for the All in On Washer Dryer

These machines are not inexpensive, but when it’s a choice between an all in one or a laundromat, the all in one wins out! These days, cost is an obvious concern.  Here are some prices; all are averages, and so may vary. They are ranked in price order.

Whirlpool: Around 750 dollars.

GE: Roughly $900.

Samsung: In the range of $950.

LG: Averages 1,200 dollars.

The LG is much more expensive as you can see, but it also runs on regular household current, so that’s a big consideration (especially if you don’t have a 240-volt outlet available).

All in One Washer Dryer Considerations

Please remember that these machines are not fully comparable to stand-alone units; while they perform well, they aren’t quite in the same league as separate units, at least when it comes to the dryer.

However, it’s a “set and forget” – no more running to the washer to take clothes out and put them in the dryer. And the all in one washer dryer is compact, so it fits in places where two units (even stackable ones) might not.
